Artwork Guidelines for Banner Printing

File Formats

  • Preferred format: Illustrator EPS with all fonts outlined.
  • PDFs: Accepted if saved as Press Optimised or Illustrator Default, with trim marks and 10mm bleed. Fonts must be embedded or outlined.
  • Photoshop: CMYK, flattened, no layers. Use full size or scaled with the scale clearly marked.
  • InDesign: Set to 100% or scaled with ratio marked. Include 10mm bleed. Package fonts/images or export as press‑ready PDF.

Colour & Resolution

  • Colour mode: CMYK only. Convert all spot colours to CMYK.
  • Resolution:
    • Best quality: 300dpi at full size
    • Large format acceptable: 100dpi at full size or 400dpi at 1/4 size
  • Internet images: Not suitable due to low resolution.
  • Pantone colours: Exact matches may not be possible with CMYK. Use a Pantone Spot to Process chart to check conversions.

Bleed, Scale & Setup

  • Add 10mm bleed on all sides where artwork reaches the edge.
  • Include crop/trim marks.
  • Clearly label any artwork supplied at scale (e.g., 1:2, 1:4).
  • Do not rescale vehicle templates provided by First Display — they are already set to the correct ratio.

Fonts & Linked Files

  • Outline all fonts before sending.
  • Embed or supply all linked images if using EPS or InDesign.
  • Ensure all placed images are high‑resolution and CMYK.

Sending Artwork

  • Small files can be emailed.
  • Larger files should be sent via Dropbox, WeTransfer, YouSendIt, etc.
  • Zip all components before uploading to avoid missing assets.

Proofing & Artwork Checks

  • A hard‑copy proof is recommended for best results.
  • First Display will check artwork free of charge, but incorrect files may require resupply or correction.
  • Artwork amendments are charged at £40 + VAT per hour (billed in 30‑minute increments).
